A RULE-MATCHED REFERENCE TO READ, SAVE AND PRINT

Use this printable blackjack basic strategy chart to find a decision by hand type and dealer upcard. The hard, soft and pair grids use one clearly stated six-deck rule profile, with separate fallbacks when doubling or eligible late surrender is unavailable.

Read it online or download a compact PDF or HTML copy to save and print. Match the rules before using any cell: a chart does not describe every Canadian table or guarantee a winning session.

Read pairs before totals. The 8,8 pair instruction overrides the hard-16 surrender row. R/H applies only to eligible original two-card hands after the dealer check. Doubling requires an eligible two-card hand; use the displayed fallback if unavailable.

If a permitted resplit is unavailable, use the resulting total, with no surrender after a split. Aces are restricted to one card in this profile; do not treat them as an ordinary soft-12 fallback. *An original two-card natural, a bust or a completed restricted split-ace hand has no further playing decision.

10 includes J, Q and K. This is a total-dependent reference for the stated profile, without card-count or composition adjustments. It does not cover H17, no-peek games, Spanish 21 or Switch. Decline insurance and even money in this no-count 3:2 baseline. A chart does not guarantee a win.

Find the right row before choosing an action

Begin with an unresolved hand, rather than a result already settled by blackjack, bust or the restricted split-ace rule. Check whether two equal-value cards form a pair. If so, consult the pair grid before using a generic total.

For another hand, identify whether an ace can still count as 11 without busting. That makes it soft. Otherwise use its hard total. Follow the row across to the dealer’s visible upcard, not an assumed hidden card or final total.

The letters remain readable in black and white. Colour helps separate actions but carries no additional instruction. Read the full legend whenever you return to a downloaded copy.

Use the card-value calculator if an ace makes the total unclear, or the hand-decision tool to enter a particular hand and its available actions.

Check the rule profile against the actual game

S17 means the dealer stands on soft 17. Peek means the dealer checks for blackjack under an ace or ten-value upcard before the playing decisions covered here. DAS means doubling after a split is permitted for otherwise eligible hands.

Those labels are inputs to the reference, not promises about a listed operator’s lobby. Read the game’s help panel for deck count, dealer procedure, natural payout, doubling restrictions, split limits and surrender.

If the dealer hits soft 17, the game has different rules. A no-peek game can expose additional double or split stakes differently. Do not silently apply this profile to those games, or to Spanish 21 or Blackjack Switch.

Read both halves of D/H, D/S and R/H

D/H means double if that action is available for the hand; otherwise hit. D/S has a different fallback: stand. The second letter is an instruction for an unavailable action, not a second action to take after doubling.

R/H means eligible late surrender, otherwise hit. This chart’s surrender cells concern original two-card hands after the dealer check. They do not authorize surrender after taking another card or after splitting.

For example, A,7 against 3 shows D/S. If doubling is unavailable, the fallback is stand. Hard 11 against 6 shows D/H, so its fallback is hit. Similar-looking slash codes need different responses.

See doubling down and surrender for the action and settlement details.

Keep pair decisions separate from a generic total

The pair grid prevents a common lookup mistake: treating 8,8 only as hard 16. Its permitted pair action takes priority over the generic surrender cell under this profile.

When a resplit limit removes an otherwise applicable pair action, consult the resulting total and available actions. Do not add late surrender to a hand created by splitting.

Aces need particular care. This profile gives each split ace one additional card and prohibits resplitting aces. A restricted hand is finished; it should not be treated as an ordinary soft-total decision with extra drawing rights.

The splitting guide explains separate stakes, split limits and why an ace plus ten after splitting is not automatically an original-hand natural.

Save an offline copy and check the print preview

Download PDF chart saves a one-page landscape sheet with the profile, legend, three grids and essential notes. Download HTML chart saves a browser-readable copy you can reopen without an account.

Print the PDF in landscape on A4, or use Fit to page for Letter. Check the preview before printing. In the HTML copy, choose Print chart and select landscape; browser margins, headers and scale can affect that result.

The downloaded file contains a dated reference, not an automatically updating feed. Keep its rule profile attached to the tables. A cropped screenshot containing only coloured cells can lose the conditions needed to interpret them.

Both downloads keep the rule notes with the grids. The website guide and comparison remain separate: no operator links or promotional rows are included in either file.

Compare regional listings separately from the chart rules

The saved records below cover five operators. Inclusion does not verify a six-deck S17 table with every action assumed by this chart, or establish that a particular game contributes to an offer.

Practise three chart lookups

A,7 against dealer 3

What if doubling is unavailable?

Use the soft-18 row. D/S means double if available, otherwise stand. Do not substitute the D/H fallback from another row.

8,8 against dealer 10

Which chart takes priority?

With splitting permitted, use the pair grid’s P instruction. Do not replace it with the generic hard-16 surrender cell.

10,6 against dealer 10

What does R/H require?

For an eligible original two-card hand after the dealer check, use late surrender. If that option is unavailable, the displayed fallback is hit.

Understand what this reference leaves out

This is total-dependent basic strategy for a fixed profile. It does not adjust for the exact composition of every multi-card hand, a card count, a changing shoe or promotion-specific value.

It chooses playing actions, not stake sizes. It does not calculate a table’s exact house edge or make a betting progression overcome that edge. Optional side bets need their own rules and analysis.

Use a planned spending limit and finish time rather than extending play to test a chart. Our responsible gambling page provides support information.

For the multi-deck strategy reference and its S17/H17 distinctions, see Wizard of Odds’ multi-deck basic strategy. Our online grids and offline sheet use the same stated profile as our hand-decision tool. Report a suspected cell error to editor Shayne Currie with the hand, upcard and rule difference.

Printable basic strategy chart FAQs

Is this a chart for every Canadian blackjack game?

No. It uses the displayed six-deck S17, peek, 3:2, double-after-split and eligible late-surrender profile, with one card to each split ace and no resplitting aces. Check the actual game before applying it. It does not cover every table or special variant.

What is the difference between D/H and D/S?

Both prefer doubling when available. D/H falls back to hit; D/S falls back to stand. Use the fallback only when doubling is unavailable for the hand. It is not an instruction to take another action after completing a double.

Can I surrender any hand marked R/H?

Only when late surrender is available for that eligible original two-card hand after the dealer's blackjack check. Otherwise use the hit fallback, subject to an applicable pair decision. This reference does not add surrender after a hit or a split.

Why does 8,8 use a different decision from hard 16?

When splitting is permitted, consult the pair grid first. The pair-of-eights instruction takes priority over the generic hard-16 surrender cell in this profile. If a restriction removes a pair action, check the resulting total and actual available actions.

Can I use the chart without a download or registration?

Yes. The three grids, profile and legend are readable on this page without signing in. On narrow screens each grid can scroll sideways. PDF and HTML downloads are optional ways to keep a compact offline copy.

How do I print or save a PDF copy?

Choose Download PDF chart for the one-page landscape PDF. Print on A4, or use Fit to page for Letter, and check the preview. Alternatively download the HTML copy, open it in a browser and choose Print chart. Browser margins and scale can affect HTML printing.

Will a downloaded chart update when the website changes?

No. It is a dated offline copy. Return to the page for a new version and keep the rule profile, legend and notes with the grids. A saved file does not inspect a casino's current rules or adapt to a different game.

Does following the chart guarantee profit?

No. It is a playing-decision reference under stated assumptions, not a prediction for a hand or session. It does not choose stakes, remove normal losing outcomes or calculate the exact edge of every table. Keep spending and time limits independent of results.
